§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will take steps to facilitate comprehensive schools to attain specialist teaching resources to the level of those of sixth form colleges.
§ Mr. DunnIn 1982 the Government set targets for intakes to initial teacher training in the years 1983 to 1985. For the first time these targets specified numbers in particular subjects of the secondary school curriculum, with a view to obtaining a better match between the output from initial training and the demands of secondary schools of all types. It is, however, for local education authorities to determine the appropriate staffing for their schools and colleges having regard to the age, abilities, aptitudes and needs of pupils.
