§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what annual savings will be made from (a) the one week deferral in the timing of the uprating, (b) from the additional 50p deduction in the case of those receiving long-term additional rate and (c) from each other specified change which results from his statement on social security benefit uprating on 18 June.
§ Dr. BoysonA periodic adjustment to the 52-week uprating cycle is necessary to maintain the uprating at the same point in the year. Savings do not therefore arise from the proposed 53-week interval between the 1983 and 1984 upratings. As to the other information requested, I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Pontypridd (Mr. John) on 21 June.
