asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he intends to reply to the letters to him dated 15 February, 21 March and 9 May from the right hon. Member for Manchester, Gorton with regard to Miss Zahidm Yhani, now Mrs. Saleem, of 40 Albion road, Fallowfield, Manchester.

Mrs. Saleem' s husband's application for entry clearance to join her in this country has been referred to the Immigration and Nationality Department by the entry clearance officer, Islamabad. It was received in the Department on 31 May 1984. It is now necessary for further inquiries to be made in this country.

I shall send a substantive reply to the right hon. Member's letters as soon as these inquiries have been completed.
