§ Mr. Key
asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will define the term "contractorisation" as used by his Department and distinguish the word from the sense of privatisation.

The definitions are as follows:

Contracting out— The transfer of the provision of a service, which the Department continues to need and for which it retains direct responsibility, to a private sector contractor.

Privatisation— The complete transfer of a central Government function to a private sector as defined by the Treasury in the national accounts.
