§ Mr. Allan StewartThe total number of people registered as unemployed on 10 May 1979 in the north Lanarkshire travel-to-work area was 15,531 and at 10 May 1984 the number of unemployed claimants was 31,375. The two figures are not directly comparable because of the change from a registrant to a claimant based count in October 1982.
