HC Deb 12 June 1984 vol 61 cc426-7W
Mr. Mikardo

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what specific proposals the London Docklands development corporation has for the provision of housing for the disabled; and what modifications of housing design it is requiring of housing developers to ensure that housing in docklands is suited to the disabled.

Sir George Young

The corporation has allocated one site in Newham to the Springboard and Shaftsbury housing associations for the development of 158 units for occupation by elderly and disabled people. The project is expected to start within the next two months and will be funded by the Housing Corporation. In addition, LDDC is funding the conversion of one dwelling in a private sector development in the Surrey docks for purchase by the World of Property Housing Trust to be allocated to a disabled tenant who is being relocated from a corporation development site. LDDC does not specify any general requirement that housing built on corporation sites should be suited to the disabled.
