HC Deb 11 June 1984 vol 61 c359W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what information he has concerning the incidence of asbestos-related diseases in manual workers and former manual workers in the naval dockyards of Devonport, Chatham, Portsmouth and Rosyth.

Mr. Lee

The Department holds detailed statistical information about the incidence of such diseases in respect of both manual and non manual Dockyard employees. We also have well documented case records. Various studies and surveys have been conducted within the dockyards in cooperation with the Medical Research Council and others, and these have assisted in our measures against these diseases. The published results have also represented a useful contribution to international knowledge about asbestos related illnesses.
