asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent representations he has had concerning the discharge of patients awaiting major heart surgery at Wythenshawe hospital; what reply he is sending; and if he will make a statement.

I have received one representation and I am asking the chairman of South Manchester health authority to investigate the case and to inform me and the right hon. Member of the outcome.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the resources available for major heart surgery at Wythenshawe hospital; how many patients are awaiting heart surgery at the hospital; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

The provision of services at Wythenshawe hospital is the responsibility of the South Manchester health authority. The hon. Member may wish to make inquiries of the chairman of the authority.
