Mr. Ernie Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local officers of his Department in the borough of Hackney as a result of the advertising campaign in March 1984; how many payments have resulted from these claims; and how many such payments had been made prior to the advertising campaign as a result of the check of current files and the publicity for dormant cases, respectively.

Three payments in respect of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefits on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been made by the Department's Hoxton local office to former claimants following the advertising campaign in March. No payments of this kind have been made by the other Hackney local offices. The number of unsuccessful inquiries made is not recorded. Six, 10, nil, nil and nil payments respectively resulted from the check of current files by the Finsbury Park, Hackney, Shoreditch, Stoke Newington and Hoxton local offices. One payment was made by the Hoxton office to a former claimant following the earlier publicity.

The number of unsuccessful inquiries made is not recorded. Seven and eight payments respectively resulted from the check of current files by Wallsend and Newcastle, East offices. Seven payments have been made by Newcastle, East office to former claimants following the earlier publicity.
