HC Deb 04 June 1984 vol 61 c31W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he plans to make any further reforms to the industrial injuries scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

The White Paper "Reform of the Industrial Injuries Scheme" (Cmnd. 8402) discusses possibilities for simplifying and modernising the scheme. Two of these reforms—the abolition of injury benefit and the introduction of a common starting date for the payment of industrial disablement benefit—were introduced in April 1983. The implementation of the remaining reforms is still under consideration.
