§ Mr. Parkasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied with the employment prospects of those disabled people in the Coventry travel-to-work area who have undertaken rehabilitation courses.
§ Mr. Alan ClarkThe Government are concerned to ensure that the resources available to promote the employment of disabled people in all parts of the country, including those devoted to employment rehabilitation courses, are used as effectively as possible in improving employment prospects for these people.
About 400 disabled people a year attend the Coventry employment rehabilitation centre run by the Manpower Services Commission. Follow up inquiries show that about 15 per cent. of those people are in jobs 3 months after their employment rehabilitation course. The national resettlement rate is 16 per cent. The Commission recently approved a number of developments designed to improve the resettlement rate.
