HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 cc150-1W
38. Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what plans he has to improve the quality of youth training schemes.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Good progress has already been made and I am generally satisfied with the quality of youth training schemes. However, we are not complacent and will continue to seek further improvements.

Youth training schemes are regularly assessed by the Manpower Services Commission against agreed standards and the commission will continue to provide managing agents and sponsors with advice and guidance on good training practice. A network of accredited centres has been set up to provide training for sponsors staff and a quality adviser has been appointed in each of the nine regions to act as an assessor and training consultant. In addition, project work to improve the content of schemes is under way.
