Information on unemployed students/school leavers, who are defined as young people who have not taken up full-time employment since completing full-time education is collected in only 141W three categories: those under 18 years of age, 18-year-olds and those aged 19 years and over. Since November 1982 the unemployment count relates to benefit claimants, but the figures prior to this date relate to people registered as unemployed. The two are not directly comparable, but an estimated series for the period before November 1982 on a claimant basis has been produced for the under-18 age group. It is not practicable to distinguish either registrants or claimants who for any reason are not receiving benefit. The statistics are as follows:
