HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c206W
Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what advice his Department has given to highway authorities regarding the use of materials for road resurfacing work which will not cause breakages of windscreens of road users and inconvenience to cyclists and pedestrians by being struck by flying chippings.

Mrs. Chalker

Advice on the resurfacing of roads by surface dressing is provided in Road Note 39 2nd Edition 1981, "Recommendations for Road Surface Dressing": published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office. This contains recommendations for the control of traffic speeds and the aftercare work needed to avoid hazards to road users when opening the road to traffic. A copy has been placed in the Library of the House.
