Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the present total annual cost of providing (a) refuse collection and disposal and (b) planning and building control for the non-domestic sector.

Local authority budgets in England for 1984–85 indicate planned current expenditure, at November 1983 prices, of £552 million on refuse collection and disposal, and £305 million on town and country planning. Information on planning and building control for the non-domestic sector is not separately identifiable.
