HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c233W
Mr. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what screening is carried out at ports of entry, in respect of foreign nationals coming into the United Kingdom, to ensure that they are not likely carriers of notifiable diseases; and what documentation to show proof of immunisation is needed for all visitors coining into the United Kingdom.

Mr. John Patten

The diagnosis of many diseases notifiable in this country requires extensive tests and it would not be practicable for all visitors to be medically examined on a routine basis to ensure that anyone Who was suffering from, or was a carrier of, a notifiable disease was identified. However, health control units are available at all major ports or entry to carry out a medical examination of any visitor whom the Immigration staff identify as possibly suffering from a disease which might endanger the public health.

In common with other developed countries, the United Kingdom has no immunisation requirements for visitors entering the country.
