HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c149W
33. Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is (a) the seasonally adjusted and (b) the unadjusted rate of unemployment in the city of Leicester.

Mr. Alan Clark

Seasonally adjusted unemployment figures are not available below regional level and rates of unemployment are calculated only for complete travel-to-work areas, which are broadly self-contained labour markets. The rate of unemployment in the Leicester travel-to-work area, which comprises the Leicester and Wigston jobcentre areas, was 10.7 per cent. on 14 June. The figure does not include 316 unemployed school leavers under 18 years of age registered at careers offices in the area who are not yet entitled to benefit.
