HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c149W
32. Mr. Sean Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what measures, initiated by Her Majesty's Government, are presently available and being used to alleviate unemployment in the borough of Knowsley; what has been their effect in the past 12 months; and if he will consider new initiatives.

Mr. Alan Clark

The principal way in which we can help the unemployed is by maintaining the Government's economic policies, which are the best guarantee of sustainable growth in output and jobs in the long term. The full range of employment and training measures run by my Department are available throughout th country. My right hon. Friend described their effect and outlined further developments on 30 July.
