§ Mr. Batisteasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what action he is taking in relation to, and what representations he is making to the United States authorities about, such restrictions imposed under United States export regulations on transfers of computer systems within the United Kingdom which are in breach of United Kingdom law; and if he will make a statement;
(2) what action he is taking in relation to, and what representations he is making to the United States authorities about, such restrictions imposed under United 202W States regulations on transfers of computer systems between member states of the European Community as are in breach of the treaty of Rome; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ChannonMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State and I have raised the issue of the extra-territorial application of United States export regulations with senior members of the United States Administration on a number of recent occasions. We have made clear to them that we find unacceptable their attempts to apply their regulations outside the territory of the United States, whether or not the provisions of those regulations might be contrary to United Kingdom or Community law.
