asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list by region the exchanges in British Telecom with the numbers of staff employed in each exchange.

This is a commercial matter for the board of British Telecom. Also, as there are over 6,000 exchanges, it would not be practicable to list them in the form requested.
