§ Mr. HurdThe available information relates to the number of inmates whose papers were marked with an "F' to denote a suicide risk, and the number who were under special observation. Of the 20 inmates whose deaths in prision establishments during 1983 resulted in a verdict of suicide, 10 had not been given an "F' marking, and 13 were not under any form of special observation at the time.
§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what was the age, sex and location of all those who committed suicide in penal establishments in 1983;
(2) what were the number of suicides in 1983 in (a) segregation or punishment cells, (b) ordinary single cells and (c) shared cells or dormitories.
§ Mr. HurdThe following table distinguishes between "ordinary" location (that is in the main part of the prison), location in the prison hospital or medical wing, or on segregation; and between a single cell (or room), shared cell (or dormitory or ward), and a punishment cell.
