HC Deb 25 July 1984 vol 64 c706W
81. Mr. Ashdown

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how Her Majesty's Government intend to present the case that the United Kingdom has honoured its commitments under article VI of the non-proliferation treaty at the non-proliferation treaty review conference in Geneva in September 1985.

Mr. Luce

We actively participate in the negotiations at the conference on disarmament in Geneva, the conference on disarmament in Europe in Stockholm, and the mutual and balanced force reduction talks in Vienna. We have also given our strong support to the INF and START negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union: and have contributed fully to the NATO discussions which resulted in the withdrawal of 1,400 nuclear warheads from Europe as announced by NATO Ministers last autumn. Discussion of article VI at the 1985 review conference will no doubt embrace these points.
