asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the Latin American debt crisis.

Many Latin American countries are acting with skill and courage in trying to overcome their debt problems, but the recent rise in international interest rates has exacerbated their difficulties. We will continue to work constructively with both debtor and creditor nations to arrive at satisfactory solutions to the problem.
