HC Deb 25 July 1984 vol 64 c689W
Mr. Nicholls

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many prosecutions have been instigated during the last 12 months against hauliers following weighing by dynamic equipment and (a) in how many cases the accused were given an absolute discharge and (b) in how many of the latter cases the dynamic equipment was found to have been inaccurate.

Mrs. Chalker

In the period 1 July 1983 to 30 June 1984 my Department brought 4,900 prosecutions against heavy goods vehicle drivers and operators for overloading measured on dynamic axle weighing equipment. Of these, 76 received an absolute discharge and in four cases it was held that the weighbridge had given inaccurate readings.
