HC Deb 25 July 1984 vol 64 c696W
30. Mr. Woodall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the situation in the Lebanon since the deployment of the official Lebanese army in and around Beirut and about the level of diplomatic activity the British embassy there is now able to perform.

Mr. Luce

We welcome the recent improvement in the situation in Beirut, following implementation of the security plan by the Lebanese army. We hope that this progress can be maintained and the Lebanese Government's authority extended to other parts of Lebanon. Her Majesty's embassy continues to carry out as normal a level of diplomatic activity as possible, but this has obviously been circumscribed by the security situation.
