asked the Solicitor-General for Scotland if he will give details of the number of senior legal assistant and legal assistant posts which have been vacant during the last three years in the Glasgow procurator's office.

The number of senior legal assistant and legal assistant posts in the procurator fiscal's office in Glasgow which have been vacant during the last three years is 21. In these years they were; eight in 1981; five in 1982; eight in 1983.

The present approved staff complement of the procurator fiscal's office in Glasgow is 269. These comprise 57 legally qualified staff and a support staff of 212, executive, clerical and secretarial grades.

During the last three years, 1981 to 1983, 20 senior legal assistants and legal assistants have been seconded to the procurator fiscal's office in Glasgow for periods varying between two days and four weeks. The total of secondments during this period has amounted to 33 man-weeks.
