HL Deb 20 July 1984 vol 454 cc1808-9WA
Lord Dulverton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will take measures to strengthen those provided for in the Wildlife and Countryside Act, over the protection of rare birds, and particulary peregrines and golden eagles, from the depredations of collectors of their eggs and young.

Lord Skelmersdale

The Government have no plans to strengthen the measures provided by the Wildlife and Countryside Act for the protection of rare birds. The Government have, however, strengthened the administrative procedure intended to make it easier to detect attempts to introduce stolen eggs and young into the captive bird registration system established under the Act. The maximum fine has been increased to £2,000 for special penalty offences. Unannounced inspections of breeders of sensitive species have been made more frequent.
