HC Deb 17 July 1984 vol 64 c146W
Mr. Geoffrey Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information is kept by his Department on the payment of furniture grants by his Department's local offices.

Dr. Boyson

Statistics kept on single payments, including those for furniture, are of the number of decisions made and total amounts paid. They do not differentiate between the various items for which a single payment can be awared. The supplementary benefit annual statistical inquiry analyses single payments made to individuals selected in the sample to show the regulations under which they were made. This analysis is carried out on a national basis; the sample size is too small to permit reliable information to be extracted on individual offices.
