HL Deb 11 July 1984 vol 454 cc1032-4WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether licences for the export of the AMAC-1 not control vehicle have been granted; if so, to which countries and whether it is not desirable that all exports should be banned, particularly to undemocratic countries, in view of the fact that the vehicle is designed for repressive purposes and includes not only surveillance equipment but bodywork which can be electrified with 700 volt current, multiple grenade launchers and water cannon.

Lord Belstead

It has been the standard practice of successive governments not to make public details of export licences granted. However, I can assure the noble Lord that licences will not be granted for equipment of this kind where, in our judgment, it is likely to be used for repressive purposes.
