HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 c375W
21. Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how much has been spent on new road construction for (a) national and (b) local authority roads in each of the past two years at constant prices.

Mrs. Chalker

At average 1982–83 prices, expenditure on new construction of motorways and trunk roads in England was £535 million in 1982–83 and, provisionally, £494 million in 1983–84. The provisional outturn for local authority roads in 1982–83 was £397 million. It is not yet possible to provide a reliable forecast for 1983–84.
