Mr. Buchan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) whether he will now make a statement on Government policy towards the mentally handicapped in Scotland;

(2) what reply was given to the Scottish Society for the Mentally Handicapped following its petition given to him on 30 May.

I have sent the hon. Member a copy of the reply given to the Society on 6 July, which may be regarded as a statement of the Government's policy towards the mentally handicapped in Scotland.
