My Department makes a number of specific grants to local authorities towards capital projects where that appears appropriate to the advancement of Government policies. The largest grants are for the urban programme, urban development, derelict land reclamation and coast protection works. A number of other departments also make grants to local authorities. In addition, loan charges on capital expenditure are reflected in the level of rate support grant which authorities receive.
