§ Mr. Bestasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with security arrangements for storage of fluoride prior to its addition to water supplies; what warnings are exhibited on containers of fluoride; what arrangements exist for storage and in what maximum quantity fluoride is stored; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GummerI have been asked to reply.
Security arrangements for the storage of chemicals used to fluoridate water before their addition to water supplies are the responsibility of the water undertakings concerned.
Clear warnings are required to be exhibited on containers of the chemicals used to indicate their health and safety hazards.
Storage arrangements are subject to the recommendations of the joint working party on fluoridation published in 1979 onwards and I will send my hon. Friend a copy of this report.
Information about the quantities of the chemical stored is not kept centrally.
