HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 cc436-7W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the number of vacant homes (a) nationally, (b) on Merseyside and (c) in the north-west.

Sir George Young

On the basis of the 1981 census and the post-enumeration survey, my Department estimates that, at April 1981, vacant dwellings in England and the north west region numbered 720,000 and 101,000 respectively. Those in Merseyside numbered 25,000.
