HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 c420W
Mr. Home Robertson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the cost per candidate per elector of delivering an election communication; and what was the cost of providing this facility at the 1983 general election (a) for the whole of Scotland and (b) as an average for each constituency.

Mr. Peter Rees

The information required is not available in the form requested and could not be obtained without undue cost. However, the cost of delivering a single electoral communication is not greater than second class postage. The total cost of delivering electoral communications at the 1983 general election in the whole of Scotland was £900,430; the average cost per constituency is £12,506; per candidate £2,868; and per elector £0.23.
