HC Deb 04 July 1984 vol 63 cc203-4W
Mr. Terry Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what extra costs will be involved in recruiting staff in the National Health Service to fill vacancies left by former employees who received redundancy payments in the recent job-shedding exercise.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

It should not be necessary for any health authority to recruit any staff as direct replacements for staff made redundant. Redundancies should only have occurred, as a result of increased efficiency or following changes in the provision of services. Any subsequent recruitment should not be for the same posts.
