asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many employees in his Department are currently taking part in job-share schemes.

Mr. Butcher

57 employees in my Department are currently working on a job-sharing basis.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many vacancies in his Department have been filled through the job release scheme in each of the last three years for which figures are available.

The numbers of vacancies in my Department filled through the job release scheme in the last three financial years were as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether any of those working in his Department are young people on the youth training scheme.

Mr. Butcher

Yes. Over the past year the Department of Trade and Industry has had a number of young people on the youth training scheme at two of its research establishments. At the national engineering laboratory seven young people are currently on the scheme and a further six have already transferred from the scheme to full-time employment in the establishment. Work experience has also been offered to two young people at the Warren Spring laboratory.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many employees in his Department are currently allowed day release facilities or other assistance to encourage them to continue their education.

The total at the beginning of June was 380.
