§ 43. Mr. Brightasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he is satisfied with the present arrangements for discouraging counterfeiting of goods.
§ Mr. Kenneth BakerI am satisfied that existing legislation on trade descriptions, patents, designs, trade marks and copyright provides effective means of dealing with counterfeiting in the United Kingdom. United Kingdom companies trading abroad should of course protect their interests by registering their intellectual and industrial property as widely as possible. We are continuing to press the European Community to act against counterfeiting under the general agreement on tariffs and trade. In addition, we will raise problems of counterfeiting in relation to British goods with the Governments of the countries concerned.
