HC Deb 30 January 1984 vol 53 c22W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he has now decided whether to set up a Welsh language development body to co-ordinate and to assess accurately the needs and demands of teaching through the medium of the Welsh language at secondary level; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stradling Thomas

A Welsh joint education committee working party is currently considering the full implications of setting up such a body. When it has reported my right hon. Friend will consider what action it would be appropriate to take.

Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the total amount of direct Government support for the Welsh language; and if he will express the figures on a per capita basis.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

£2,550,236 in 1983–84—£0.93 per head of population in Wales.
