HC Deb 30 January 1984 vol 53 cc8-9W
Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many motorway service areas will be fully operational on the M25 motorway by the summer bank holiday 1986.

Mrs. Chalker

I aim to have the two service areas proposed for the north and east quadrants of the M25 opened in 1986. I cannot make firm predictions about precise dates because of the uncertainties of the planning process, but every effort will be made to have them open by August bank holiday of that year. The service areas for the other two quadrants will follow as soon as possible.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the reasons for remedial work on the section of the M25 between the A13 and the M11, nine months after it opened.

Mrs. Chalker

Some joints in the concrete carriage-way of the M25 between North Ockendon, south of A127, and the Roding Valley, north of A12, are being re-sealed at the contractor's expense. The need for minor works of this kind often arises during the contract maintenance period. To minimise disruption, works are being done outside peak periods and lane closures restricted to 500-metre lengths. Remaining work between the A12 and the A127 should be complete by the end of February. Similar work north of the A12 will follow.
