Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of (a) unemployed males and (b) unemployed females in the South Shields employment exchange area had been out of work for (i) one year, (ii) two years and (iii) three years at the latest available date.

The following is the information for unemployed claimants in the South Shields jobcentre area on 13 October 1983, the latest date for which an analysis by duration of unemployment is available.

Mr. Winnick

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what is the number of adult persons who have been unemployed in (a) the United Kingdom, (b) the west midlands and (c) the Walsall travel-to-work area for 12 months or over; and if he will give the figures for May 1979 and the percentage difference in each case between the two dates;

(2) if he will set out by region the number of (a) adults and (b) those under 21 years of age who have been unemployed for 12 months and over; and if he will give the figures for May 1979 and the percentage differences in each region between the two dates.

(3) what is the number of those over 45 years who have been unemployed for 12 months and over in (a) the United Kingdom, (b) the west midlands and (c) the Walsall travel-to-work area; and if he will give the figures for May 1979 and the percentage differences between the two dates.
