HC Deb 30 January 1984 vol 53 cc11-2W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister if she is now in a position to make a statement on the case of Dieter Gerhardt, pursuant to the reply of the Lord Privy Seal on 6 December to the hon. Member for Hartlepool (Mr. Leadbitter), Official Report, c. 160.

The Prime Minister

I have nothing to add to my reply of 24 November 1983—c.242—to the hon. Member for Hartlepool (Mr. Leadbitter) on the Gerhardt case. The suggestion made by the hon. Member for Hartlepool on 6 December that British naval vessels were being refuelled at Simonstown during the Falklands conflict is incorrect. No British warships have visited Simonstown since 1974 and the Royal Navy made no use of Simonstown in connection with the operations in the South Atlantic in 1982.
