HC Deb 26 January 1984 vol 52 cc667-8W
Mr. Roy Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what provision his recent financial arrangements for the Zoological Society of London makes for the writing-off of existing bank debts and for future capital development, respectively.

Mr. Waldegrave

The financial support announced by my right hon. Friend on 21 December 1983—[Vol. 51, c. 284]—will be restricted to revenue support and is not intended to write off the existing bank overdraft. The Government have agreed to consider the possibility of making grant available for capital projects in the light of a business plan which is to be presented to my right hon. Friend by the end of July. This assistance would be offered on a pound for pound basis, within the resources available, to match contributions raised from non-Government sources.
