HC Deb 26 January 1984 vol 52 c629W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the inadequacy of current controls preventing multiple voting at general elections, he will consider, when drawing up proposals for postal votes for those away on holiday, the simultaneous restriction on the right of individuals to register for general election purposes at more than one location.

Mr. Mellor

The Government do not accept that measures to prevent multiple registration for parliamentary elections are either necessary or feasible, but consider that voting more than once at a general election should remain an offence.
