HC Deb 25 January 1984 vol 52 c599W
39. Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what advice is given to British diplomats and visitors to the Sudan following the imposition of Islamic law; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

Officials posted to or visiting the Sudan are advised that the new Sudanese laws must be respected, and that they should take care not to infringe local custom, particularly concerning alcohol, dress and behaviour.

The same advice is given to intending visitors who consult the Foreign and Commonwealth Office before departure.
