Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what were the prices paid for suckler calves in the principal markets in Northern Ireland in each of the months of September, October, November and December in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and in 1974 and 1975, in cash prices and real terms, taking 1974 as 100.

Mr. Butler

[pursuant to his reply, 19 January 1984, c. 321]: Estimates of prices paid for suckler calves in the principal markets in Northern Ireland for the dates requested are given in cash terms and, as an index, in "real" terms.

hospital beds in the Londonderry area. However, the Department's approval to the nucleus cluster development now being undertaken on and planned for the Altnagelvin site is conditional upon the revenue costs of this development being fully funded by the Western Board through the rationalisation or closure of existing obsolescent facilities.

Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many new hospital beds have been provided in Londonderry in each of the last three years; how many he expects to be provided in each of the next five years; at what hospitals and in what categories they will be provided; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chris Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 19 January 1984, c. 321]: No new hospital beds have been provided in Londonderry in the last three years. The nucleus cluster developments at Altnagelvin hospital will provide 78 new acute beds by 1986. Decisions on the use of these beds is essentially a matter for the Western Health and Social Services Board.
