§ Mr. Fisherasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he is satisfied with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation policy concerning a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. LuceYes. In the Committee on Disarmament, NATO allies seek disarmament measures which are balanced, realistic and verifiable. We are actively engaged within the Committee in discussions which might lead to a comprehensive test ban of such a nature. However, progress towards this end has proved difficult. Important problems of verification remain to be resolved.
