HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 c528W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he is satisfied with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation policy concerning a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

Yes. In the Committee on Disarmament, NATO allies seek disarmament measures which are balanced, realistic and verifiable. We are actively engaged within the Committee in discussions which might lead to a comprehensive test ban of such a nature. However, progress towards this end has proved difficult. Important problems of verification remain to be resolved.
