HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 c515W
Mr. John David Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many car parking spaces there were in Newtownards in October 1982, May 1983 and October 1983; and what is the proposed programme for the provision of additional car parking spaces in Newtownards in 1984, 1985 and 1986.

Mr. Chris Patten

In October 1982, there were 500 off-street and 650 on-street car parking spaces maintained by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland in the town centre area of Newtownards. Since then the numbers have remained unchanged. The Department is actively pursuing plans to provide a further 150 off-street parking spaces and it is hoped that these will be available for use before the end of 1986.
