HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 c549W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what costs attributable to inpatients are shown by his monitoring of Huddersfield health authority; and what are the comparable average costs nationwide.

Mr. John Patten

In 1981.82 Huddersfield health authority's total expenditure on inpatients was £24 million, of which £9.352 million was at acute hospitals. The costs at these acute hospitals amounted to £552.02 per patient treated and £67.30 per patient day. The national averages by these measures were £629.24 and £74.96. In comparing local costs with national averages, it is important to take account of local specialty mix, case mix and any other local factors which influence local costs.
