HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 cc201-2W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is satisfied with his provision of pensions for widows whose husbands were severely disabled during the war and were thus prevented from working and making national insurance contributions towards a state pension.

Mr. Newton

Yes. War widows receive a tax-free pension (currently £44.25 a week) which is about 30 per cent. higher than that awarded to civilian widows. In addition they receive an age allowance of £4.30 a week at age 65 which is doubled to £8.60 a week at age 70.
